It's Like Deja vu All Over Again

Long time New York Jet publicist Doug Miller hefts a jumbo snook. Doug was fishing with Dave Bodnar and Eric Cin and left with some sore arms. Having a 50 redfish day fellas?

Within the pages of Yogism, it was not hard to find the famed catcher's philosophy that would describe recent spring flats fishing. "It's like deja vu all over again ". Late cold snaps, bait availability, gin clear water and plenty of northeast wind are all too familiar anymore. Perhaps it is for the better. What was once considered "unfavorable conditions" make us work harder and we subsequently become perpetually consistent as fishers of fish. And so it is and will be.

Overall, the flats have been producing jumbo snook, redfish, trout, tarpon, flounder, jacks, and cobia in full swing. Nearshore, Spanish and king mackerel, cobia, permit and the usual bottom reef species are frenzied just a few miles offshore.

Our full focus now will be on the giant tarpon of Florida's west coast. With no red tide in the Gulf, clean water and plentiful bait, it will likely be one of the best tarpon cycles in recent years. Props to the tarpon gods!

I'll keep the words short and let the images do the talking (my apologizes to dial up users for the long download). Enjoy the images!

Screaming Drags And Tired Arms!

Robert McCue

Jack Saz braved 25 knot northeast winds and had his drag warmed up with this 39 inch snook.

Top Left: "Boomer"  Overstreet with mom (Liz), dad (Michael) and Mr. Snook. The jumbo trout were finding plenty of crickets to eat, but "Boomer" ran out of munchies by noon and struggled with visions of IHOP the rest of the afternoon.

Top Right: (right to left) Kyle Overstreet (center) brought fishing pals Mark (left) and Fran (right) from Jacksonville for two days of shallow flats fishing. Here they prepare to make a triple redfish release.

Bottom Left: On day two, I received direct orders from the commander in chief. Kyle said "read my lips, no more reds and trout-snook only".   (left to right) Mark, Fran, and Kyle with a few of gator trout and snook from day two. Did we decide? Was it 13 snook or 14? I lost count ;-o)

You are all very special people to me! Thank you for all of the memories you create(d) for/with me the past 12 years of our friendship.

The dynamic duo of Adam Bresovits and "Jungle Jim" (moustache) were back at putting Pasco and Hernando Counties on the map for a couple of days over the past month.. "Jungle Jim" recently closed a large business contract and believe it or not, he was relaxed enough to have just about caught everything that obliged to his offerings and he managed to not turn off the baitwell again! Life is good! Thank you Adam for all of your help and friendship!

Fishing with a long time friend and client of mine, Fran Baltmiskis, Steve Howard released this over sized snook on a recent outing aboard the Bounty Hunter.
