We have been experiencing some of the best flats fishing we have had in the last 5 years. As in all aspects of the outdoor world, there is an exception. Late and significant cold fronts are still crossing the entire state. Cold-blooded animals such as fish do not do well when the temperature changes near 20 degrees overnight. The good news is the warm trends are quick to follow. From Homosassa to Ft. Myers, the story is the same.

Generally speaking, things are behind 2  weeks or so from the norm. Another blast is forecasted  for the weekend. Let’s hope that is it for spring of 2005.

Snook, redfish, trout, jacks, pompano, tarpon, cobia, king and Spanish mackerel, permit, and grouper are the primary catches at this time. I will focus my attention to the tarpon for now and through summer. We are a little behind on them now with the cold air and water. The fish are here, but subject to fishing and catching them according to the weather.

I’ll keep the report short with text, but high in bandwidth. My apologizes for all of those I could not get in this report and to the dialup users for a large page/slow-download. Nonetheless, enjoy a few of the highlights of the last 6 weeks.

"Jungle" Jim and Adam Bresovits with a portion of their inshore "slams" (snook, redfish and trout) and easily released well over their limit.
Nice pants Jungle!!! (I mean Jim)

The Tom Gillette ( Tom center) party had a little rough start in the AM with the staple crickets (aka scaled sardines), but in the end, it was worth the wait. Reds, trout and snook were the order of the day.

"Gator" trout were abundant all spring!

Bobby Jones (fore) fishing with granddad Bob Greenwald took this nice red to prove, he remains the "masta".

Percy Stewart fishing with pal Mike Gunter caught numerous jumbo black drum while sight casting  a large school on the flats.

The "delicacy of the flats", the pompano, were readily taken by "skipping" them on "Indian Summer" days between the cold fronts.

Joan Christy, along with husband Dana, had some excellent snook, red, and trout fishing while giving Jack Frost of Pennsylvania "the slip".
